What is Särö?
Särö is a Finnish cultural magazine with strong focus on contemporary literature. It was established in 2006, in Porvoo, a small seaside town in Southern Finland. It is published four times a year. The word "särö" means "crack, fracture or break". In 2010, Särö's office moved to Helsinki. It also expanded to Berlin, where an office and an artist/writer residence have been established.
Särö's mission is to discover new literary talent, while always giving space for established writers. Särö is politically independent but also wants to contribute to the social debate regarding the arts.
In 2013, Särö received a Quality Award for Cultural Magazines from the Finnish Minister of Culture.
